Man Found Dead in Wheelie Bin in Islington Identified

Victim Named as Erik San-Filippo

Detectives investigating a grim discovery in Islington have identified the man found dead in a wheelie bin as 23-year-old Erik San-Filippo. Police were called to Tollington Road just before 4pm on Saturday, 11 May, after reports of a body in the bin.

Erik San-Filippo, an Italian national, has been formally identified, and his next of kin have been informed.

Inconclusive Post-Mortem

A post-mortem examination has taken place but failed to determine the exact cause of death. Further tests are ongoing as the case is currently being treated as unexplained. The Met’s Central North Command is leading the inquiry.

Man Arrested and Released on Bail

A 52-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 12 May, on suspicion of murder. He has since been bailed to return to police in mid-June.
