Callum Hobbs Jailed After 90mph Crash Into Gosport Garden Wall
A reckless driver who tore through a 30mph zone at 90mph before smashing into a garden wall has been jailed. Callum Laurence Hobbs, 20, caused serious injuries to his passenger in Gosport.
Speeding Too Fast for a Bend
On the night of 19 March, Hobbs failed to negotiate a bend on Tichborne Way, Gosport, just before 10:45pm. His grey Ford Fiesta ST careered out of control after hitting a kerb, crashing into a garden wall.
The court heard Hobbs was hitting speeds of up to 92mph on the residential street—three times the speed limit.
Passenger Suffers Severe Injuries
A female passenger in the car suffered serious spinal and internal injuries in the smash. Eight months on, she is still receiving treatment.
Dashcam Footage Seals Hobbs’ Fate
Dashcam footage, bought for Hobbs by his father, revealed a dangerous pattern of speeding through Gosport’s streets before the crash. The footage showed Hobbs struggling to control the car even at 50mph just moments before impact.
Justice Served: Jail and Driving Ban
Hobbs pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and banned from driving for two years. After that, he must pass an extended driving test to get his licence back.
“This was a prolonged and continued display of poor driving by Hobbs,” said PC Robert Lewis from the Roads Policing Unit.
“He not only put his own life at risk but those of his passenger and the public. This must be a warning, especially to young and inexperienced drivers. Simply put, it’s not worth the risk.”
