Sex offender Sean Phipps on the run after failing to return to prison

Fugitive absconds after release from HMP Leyhill

Sean Phipps, 51, a convicted kidnapper and rapist jailed in 2002, has vanished after a day out in Bristol city centre. Phipps, who has used the surnames Cawthray, Goldthorpe, and Perry, was released but failed to return to HMP Leyhill as required.

Distinctive look captured on release footage

The white male, around 6ft 2ins tall, was spotted wearing a black coat over a blue top, blue jeans, Timberland boots, a black Casio watch, blue glasses, and carrying a vape pen. CCTV footage from the day of his release shows him in these clothes.

Police believe Phipps could be outside local area

Detective Inspector Dan Rowan said officers have an open mind about his whereabouts. However, they believe Phipps may have travelled beyond their jurisdiction. He is known to have ties in Leicester and Leeds.

“We’d like to ask anyone who sees Phipps to call 999 and quote reference number 5222130002,” said DI Rowan.

Anyone with information on Phipps’ location is urged to call 101, quoting the same reference number.
