Ian Watkins, the notorious lostprophets singer, was brutally stabbed to death last October inside maximum-security HMP Wakefield. The 48-year-old was serving a 29-year sentence for horrific child sex offences. A post-mortem confirmed he died from a fatal neck wound.
Two Prisoners Charged with Watkins’ Murder
Rashid Gedel, 25, also known in court as Rico Gedel, has now pleaded not guilty to killing Watkins. He joins co-accused Samuel Dodsworth, 43, who previously denied the murder charge via video link from prison.
Watkins’ Dark History Behind Bars
- Watkins was jailed in December 2013 for 29 years plus six on licence after admitting sick child sex crimes, including attempted rape of a fan’s baby.
- He was caught after a massive police raid in 2012 uncovered damning evidence on phones and computers.
- In 2019, Watkins received extra time for smuggling a mobile phone into prison.
- Despite surviving a previous stabbing during a hostage incident at Wakefield, this latest attack proved fatal.
