Ten Fire Engines and Boats Battle Massive Flood at Lee Green Fire Station
Major Water Main Burst Floods South East London
Emergency crews scrambled early Friday morning after a huge water main burst on Eltham Road, Greenwich, causing severe flooding. Lee Green fire station was left submerged in up to six feet of water, trapping firefighters and leaving a major South East London road closed in both directions.
Rescue Operation in Full Swing
Ten fire engines, complete with specialist rescue teams and boats, were rushed to the scene. Firefighters from Bexley and Lewisham donned flood rescue suits to evacuate residents trapped in nearby homes on Meadow Court Road, which also suffered extensive water damage.
Road Closures and Ongoing Repairs
Emergency crews are working hard to repair the damaged water valve, with engineers calling in high-volume pumps to tackle the flooding. Eltham Road remains shut both ways as police and fire services warn motorists and locals to steer clear. A critical incident has been postponed due to the chaos caused by the deluge.
Authorities Respond
The Met Police and London Fire Brigade are actively managing the situation. Residents and drivers are urged to avoid the affected area while repair work continues.
