Two Men Snatch and Wreck £25k Mercedes After Night Out in Eastbourne

Two blokes have been handed suspended jail sentences after stealing and crashing a man’s Mercedes following a night out in Eastbourne.

From Nightclub Chat to Car Theft

Oliver Dennis, 23, from St Leonards Road, and Charlie Saint, 21, from Jevington Gardens, met their victim outside Cameo nightclub in the early hours of 14 September. The man invited the pair back to his flat at Sovereign Harbour for drinks, where they spent the night with his flatmate.

As daylight broke, the victim went to bed and politely asked Dennis and Saint to leave. But instead of leaving, the pair swiped the keys to the victim’s Mercedes – worth over £25,000 – and made a run for it.

High-Speed Disaster: Crash Leaves Car Wrecked

After punching the accelerator, the driver lost control and slammed the luxury motor into a car park pillar. The hit was so bad the car was written off. CCTV captured the crash and showed the two suspects fleeing the scene.

Police found Saint’s provisional driving licence inside the wreck and quickly tracked down the culprits.

Sentenced to Suspended Jail, Driving Ban, and Community Work

At Lewes Crown Court on 19 February, Dennis and Saint both pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking. They were each handed a nine-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, and banned from driving for 18 months.

  • £149 victim surcharge each
  • £400 compensation to the victim each
  • Curfew from 9pm to 5am for four months
  • Dennis to complete 110 hours unpaid work
  • Saint to complete 80 hours unpaid work

Justice served – but the wrecked £25k Mercedes is a costly reminder of a disastrous night out.
