Wateringbury Pensioner Jailed for Six Years Over Shocking Child Sex Abuse
A 78-year-old pensioner from Wateringbury has been locked up for six years after being found guilty of multiple child sex offences.
Sexual Predator Busted After Grooming Children for Years
Terence Clover, of Orchard Crescent, was arrested in December 2018 following allegations he groomed and abused a young boy. The investigation uncovered a second victim and revealed Clover had showered children with gifts like clothes, computer games, and even promised them a place in his will.
He gave one victim a secret mobile phone to make covert calls. The crimes stretched from September 2014 to December 2018.
Convicted on All Counts After Maidstone Crown Court Trial
At Maidstone Crown Court, Clover pleaded not guilty but was convicted on all nine charges of assaulting a child by touching. On 19 November 2019, he was sentenced to six years behind bars plus an extended three-year licence period.
He also received an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to keep him away from children.
Detective Praises Victims’ Bravery, Urges Others to Speak Out
“Terence Clover is a sexual predator who targeted and abused children for his own gratification,” said Detective Constable George Brooks of the West Kent Vulnerable Investigation Team. “The damage caused by these offences lasts a lifetime.
“I commend both victims for their bravery in coming forward and helping bring this appalling individual to justice. If you’ve been a victim of any sexual offence, please remember it’s never too late to report it. We treat every case with utmost confidence and sensitivity.”
