Mum Stabs Daughter in Cold Blood Over ‘Tech and Laser’ Paranoia

Tragic Attack in Midlands Home

A 33-year-old woman brutally stabbed her 10-year-old daughter to death while she slept, convinced they were victims of “tech and lasers.” Jaskirat Kaur carried out the horrific attack with a Swiss army knife at their home in Rowley Regis, West Midlands, this March.

Hours after the stabbing, Kaur called emergency services and confessed to killing Shay Kang, telling police she did it to protect her from imagined threats.

Disturbing Delusions and Callous Confession

When officers arrived, they found Kaur distressed and ranting about “projections” and high-tech attacks targeting her family. She shockingly admitted, “I didn’t want her getting taken by it.” Kaur revealed she had planned the murder for months, showing no remorse: “They can’t take her. I would kill her again. I wanted her to die; I don’t regret it.”

Manslaughter Verdict & Mental Illness Defence

Kaur pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility. Two psychiatrists diagnosed her with paranoid schizophrenia, confirming her severe mental illness drove the fatal act. He acknowledged the community’s shock and the impact of Kaur’s condition on the family’s tragic circumstances.

Community Mourns Bright Young Life Lost

Shay had been kept from school for nine months due to Kaur’s paranoid fears, including a worry about a “male” abductor. Social workers noted Shay’s pale, robotic behaviour and speech regression, while Kaur battled deep paranoia and anxiety.

Shay briefly returned to Brickhouse Primary School in January, describing an isolated life with her mother.

Carla Newby, the school’s pastoral officer, called Shay a “bright, happy, fun-loving child” whose smile could “brighten up the dimmest of days.” Staff laid a pink blanket and teddy bear in Shay’s coffin as a final tribute.

Isolation and a Bleak Future for Kaur

Kaur’s defence lawyer revealed her client’s grim outlook. “She has received no visits apart from her legal team, no letters, living in complete isolation,” said Katherine Goddard KC. “The bleak sadness ahead for her is unimaginable.”

Neighbours Pay Tribute

The community remains shattered by the loss, leaving flowers outside the family home in Rowley Regis. Neighbours, teachers, and locals continue to grieve the heartbreaking death of young Shay Kang.
