Fake Masseur Banged Up for Sex Attacks After Faking Certificate
Mooney bragged online about being a qualified masseur — but his certificate was a sham. Police say he used the fake creds to lure victims into his dirty schemes.
Predator Pounced on Discount-Loving Victim
On 14 December 2020, Mooney spotted a woman who liked his Facebook page and offered her a discounted massage. He went to her home, promising to focus on shoulders and back. But his massage quickly turned lewd. The victim told him to stop. Soon after, she reported him to police, sparking a full investigation.
More Victims Surface After Bogus Business Exposed
Police cracked open Mooney’s fake massage operation and found more victims. He targeted women on Facebook, offering discounts as a “newly qualified” masseur eager to grow his business. Instead, he turned each session into a sexual assault. Some women were shown his fake qualifications, others felt he was sexually aroused during treatments.
Sentenced for Sex Assault and Fraud
After his arrest, Mooney tried to convince officers with his forged certificate — but it was quickly busted. The 44-year-old from Woodgrange Gardens, Enfield, London, was charged and pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to four counts of sexual assault and fraud charges. On 12 November 2024, he was jailed for three years and four months. He must also comply with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
Detective Constable Gemma Willis said: “These women trusted Mooney to help them recover, but he abused that trust when they were at their most vulnerable. He’s an appalling predator who left victims feeling violated. I hope his jail time brings them some closure.”
