Two Toddlers Die in Suspected Arson Flat Blaze – Man Arrested for Murder
Tragedy struck in Clifton at the crack of dawn when a cruel fire tore through a flat on Fairisle Close.
Horrific Fire Claims Lives of Two Young Sisters
The blaze broke out at 3:17am on Sunday 20 November 2022. Two children, aged just one and three, and a woman were rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre. Sadly, the two little girls were pronounced dead. The woman remains in critical condition.
31-Year-Old Man Held Over Murder and Attempted Murder
Police and fire investigators swiftly concluded the fire was started deliberately. A murder probe was launched. Detectives arrested a 31-year-old local man from Clifton on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He is currently in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Greg McGill said: “This is a deeply tragic incident and we have a large team working tirelessly to understand the full circumstances.
“Whilst we have now made an arrest, the investigation remains at an early stage. We appeal to anyone with the slightest bit of information or any CCTV or dash-cam footage to come forward.”
Community in Shock as Police Boost Patrols
Inspector Ben Lawrence, leading community reassurance patrols, said: “These are very sad circumstances. Our thoughts are with the families. The local area has been left shocked and saddened by the deaths of two very young children.”
“We’ve increased patrols and encourage anyone with concerns to speak to police officers.”
