Donna Jones Takes Charge as Hampshire’s New Police and Crime Commissioner
Donna Jones hit the ground running as she officially took office as Hampshire’s new Police and Crime Commissioner today. Her first moves? Meeting with Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney and hitting the streets of Winchester to connect with local communities.
Swearing In with a Promise to Deliver
On Thursday morning, May 13, Donna made her Declaration of Acceptance of Office, swearing an Oath to act with integrity and give the public a strong voice. “I feel incredibly humbled by the support I have been shown across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight,” she said. “I’m proud to be the first woman to hold this role here, and with my public service record, I’m determined to deliver on my campaign pledges.”
Cracking Down on Crime: What’s Next?
Following her oath, the new Commissioner walked Winchester’s streets alongside Chief Constable Pinkney before holding their first official meeting. Donna revealed she immediately raised the top concerns from the public with the Chief Constable.
“People told me they don’t feel as safe as before, want more police on patrol, and expect better feedback when they report crimes,” Donna said. “I outlined priorities: recruit 600 new officers, cut red tape so cops spend more time on the streets, and overhaul the 101 and 999 services to improve victim feedback.”
She described the meeting as “positive” and promised to work closely with the Chief Constable to reduce crime and make Hampshire and the Isle of Wight some of the safest places to live.
Chief Constable Welcomes New Leadership
Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney said, “On behalf of all officers, staff, and volunteers, I warmly welcome Donna Jones as our new Police and Crime Commissioner. She will continue to give the public a voice and strengthen criminal justice across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”
Pinkney added, “I look forward to collaborating on key issues highlighted during Donna’s campaign, including officer recruitment, violence reduction, and supporting young people to steer clear of crime.”
