A man in his 50s or 60s tragically died after being rescued from the sea at Sandown’s Eastern Gardens beach on Sunday night.

Heroic Rescue Efforts Fail

Emergency services were scrambled to Culver Parade just after 8pm. Despite frantic efforts by bystanders, local paramedics, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance doctors, and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team officers, the man’s life couldn’t be saved.

Death Not Treated as Suspicious

The victim was rushed under police escort to St Mary’s Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Hampshire Constabulary said: “We are aware of the sudden death of a man at Culver Parade, Sandown on the evening of Sunday, 28 July. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

This tragic death follows a similar incident just a month ago, when another man died after being pulled from the sea at nearby Yaverland.
