Sylvia Jeeves, 86, vanished on the evening of Sunday, 13 March 2022. Also known as Sylvia Collins, her disappearance sparked an intense search effort that gripped the Dorset community.
Massive Search Operation Fails to Find Sylvia Alive
Police and rescue teams combed the River Stour near Iford Lane on Friday, 25 March 2022. Officers from Dorset Police teamed up with Devon & Cornwall Police’s Marine Unit in hopes of finding Sylvia.
The operation included the Force Drone Team, Dorset Search & Rescue (DorSAR), Dorset Search Dogs, Wessex Flood Rescue Unit, and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Technical Rescue Unit. Despite their combined efforts, the search proved fruitless.
Body Recovered from Christchurch Harbour
At 8:52am on Sunday, 27 March, a woman’s body was pulled from the water in Christchurch Harbour. Formal ID is still pending, but Sylvia’s family has been informed. Authorities confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious, with the coroner now involved.
Chief Inspector Neil Wright of Dorset Police said: “We have informed Sylvia’s family of this very sad news, and the thoughts of everyone at Dorset Police are with them.”
