Road Worker Brutally Assaulted at Roadworks After Man Furious over Road Closure
Violent Clash at Roadworks in Station Road
On Wednesday, March 28, around 7.20pm, chaos erupted at the junction of Station Road and the High Street. Officers were called after a road worker was assaulted during ongoing roadworks.
A man got out of his car and started shouting aggressively at a road worker when told he couldn’t drive through the closed road. Another worker stepped in to calm things down, but the suspect jumped back in his car and forced his way through the closure before stopping on the roadside.
Second Vehicle Arrives, Fight Breaks Out
That’s when a second vehicle pulled up. Men from both cars emerged, and shortly after, the road worker was punched in the head. The brutal blow caused serious facial injuries.
Suspect Arrested, Police Hunt Witnesses
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH). He has been bailed while police continue their investigations.

Insp Louis McCoy said: “This was a nasty and unjustifiable attack on a person trying to do their job within our community. There is no place in society for violent acts such as this and we will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
