Mother and Two Young Children Die in Suspected Arson Attack

Tragedy struck Fairisle Close, Clifton, in the early hours of Sunday, 20 November 2022, as a devastating fire claimed the lives of a young mother and her two children. Fatoumatta Hydara, 28, was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre at 3.17am but tragically died on life support two days later, on Tuesday morning.

Her children, one-year-old Naeemah Drammeh and three-year-old Fatimah Drammeh, were also taken to hospital but were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Deliberate Fire Sparks Murder Probe

An intense murder investigation is underway after fire and police officials confirmed the blaze was started deliberately.

A 31-year-old man from Clifton was arrested on Sunday night and remains in custody. Police have secured an extra 36 hours to question him as the inquiry intensifies.

Heartbreaking Statements and Community Appeal

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski, leading the case, said:

“We are dealing with one of the most horrendous crimes – the death of two young children and their mother. This is a deeply upsetting tragedy. I can only imagine the family’s pain.”

DCI Sinski revealed the woman’s husband, father of the children, was abroad during the fire. The grieving family is being supported by specialist officers.

He continued:

“We are doing everything possible to bring justice. A large team of detectives and specialists are working round the clock to investigate. This is now a triple homicide.”

The local community has been left shocked and saddened. Police are conducting high-visibility patrols in the area to reassure residents and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
