Stay Home, Stay Safe: Surrey Chiefs Warn Over Easter Bank Holiday

As the Easter weekend rolls in with warmer weather, Surrey’s top health officials are urging residents to resist the urge to roam far and wide.

Don’t Blow It This Easter

The heads of Surrey’s Public Health and Active Surrey have issued a stark warning: keep exercising local and responsible. Fresh air and exercise are vital during lockdown, but only if you follow the rules.

Ruth Hutchinson, Interim Director of Public Health for Surrey County Council, said: “Lighter nights and long, dry days usually mean time to get social – but these aren’t normal times. The public’s response has been fantastic so far, but as we hit the peak of this virus phase, it’s crucial to stick to the habits we’ve built. Only mix with your own household. It might sound dramatic, but this really can protect the NHS and save lives.”

Active Surrey Champions ‘Responsible Exercise’

Active Surrey, the county’s physical activity advocates, are urging locals to keep up safe exercise habits.

Managing Director Lil Duggan said: “It’s great more people appreciate the benefits of getting outside, but safety comes first. Whether jogging, cycling, or a walk in the woods, always keep at least 2 metres from others and stay local.”

She added there’s no need to risk it outdoors for hours: “For anyone needing more than a 30-60 minute stroll, we’ve got loads of free online classes and activities. Visit ActiveSurrey.com or follow our social channels for daily inspiration.”
