Woman caught drink-driving after 999 tip-off
Anne Peel, 47, from West Overton, has been slapped with a 30-month driving ban after pleading guilty to drink-driving. She was arrested on May 27 following a public 999 call about a Ford Focus driving dangerously on the A4 towards Marlborough.
Refused breath test but arrested anyway
Police tracked Peel to her home address, where she was behind the wheel. Appearing clearly intoxicated, she refused a roadside breath test. Officers arrested her and took her into custody, where a breathalyser revealed 126 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath — way over the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Heavy penalties handed down
At court, Peel received a 30-month driving disqualification, a community order demanding 120 days of alcohol abstinence, a rehabilitation programme, and a £120 fine.
“First and foremost, we’d like to thank the vigilant member of the public who first reported their concerns about Peel’s driving,” said PC Alexandra Way. “We are always out patrolling our roads, but we can’t be everywhere at once, so public reports are vital.”
“Peel was clearly intoxicated and unfit to drive. Alcohol severely hampers your ability to react safely behind the wheel. I’m relieved a lengthy driving ban has been imposed.”
