Massive M25 Tailbacks as Oil Spill Closes Three Lanes
Drivers face chaos today as the M25 grinds to a halt with queues stretching up to ten miles. An oil spill has forced the closure of three out of four lanes between junctions 2 and 3, sparking delays of up to 90 minutes.
National Highways Scramble to Clear Spill
Teams from National Highways are battling to treat the oil spill, which covers around 1,500 metres of the carriageway in lane 2.
“Every effort is being made to treat the spillage effectively in order to avoid the need for emergency resurfacing,” National Highways said. “Lanes have been closed so that this work can be done safely at the scene.”
Travel Advice: Avoid or Expect Long Delays
Motorists travelling from Essex to Kent via the Dartford Crossing are warned to allow plenty of extra journey time. The tailbacks stretch from Dartford all the way to the M25/A127 interchange, with congestion reaching from Sutton at Hone near the A127 junction by the Partyman World of Play centre.
“Please allow extra travel time if this closure affects your planned route. Plan ahead; you may want to reroute or even postpone your trip,” National Highways urges.
