A segment of the M25 motorway between junctions 10 and 11 is scheduled to close for a third full weekend next month, to facilitate construction work on a new bridge.
The closure will take place from 9pm on Friday, July 12, until 6am on Monday, July 15. The work involves the construction and installation of a bridge on the western gyratory of the roundabout at Junction 10. The new bridge will feature 68 beams, each weighing 16 tonnes, and an additional four beams weighing 40 tonnes.
National Highways senior project manager Jonathan Wade said, “The previous two closures have gone well with significant progress being made during both. We would urge all drivers to follow the official diversion route as this is the best chance of reaching your destination in good time. Please ignore your satnavs and follow our diversion route instead.”
These improvements are part of an ongoing effort to make journeys safer and reduce pollution. Identical work was carried out on the eastern gyratory of the roundabout at junction 10 during the May closure.
This is the third of five full weekend closures scheduled for the M25, with two more planned later this year. National Highways and delivery partner Balfour Beatty Atkins are collaborating with key stakeholders, including Surrey County Council, emergency services, local businesses, and Gatwick and Heathrow airports, to prepare for the closure.
Residents, holiday-makers, concertgoers, and sports fans are being advised to plan their journeys, allowing extra time or seeking alternative travel arrangements.
Official Diversion Routes
For drivers travelling between junctions 10 and 11, the official diversion routes are as follows:
- Exit the M25 at J10 and follow the northbound A3 to the A245 Painshill junction.
- Continue on the A245 towards Woking and Byfleet.
- At the Six Crossroads Roundabout, take the 5th exit onto the A320 and continue until reaching M25 junction 11.
