M25 Shuts Again for New Bridge Build – Weekend Traffic Chaos Looms
A key section of the M25 between junctions 10 and 11 is set to close for a third full weekend next month. The shutdown will hit the road from 9pm on Friday, July 12, until 6am Monday, July 15, as workers install a new bridge on the western gyratory at Junction 10 roundabout.
Massive Steel Beams to Close Motorway for Vital Works
The bridge project involves installing 68 hefty steel beams weighing 16 tonnes each, plus an extra four beams tipping the scales at 40 tonnes. This mammoth task aims to boost road safety and slash pollution in the area.
Jonathan Wade, Senior Project Manager at National Highways, said: “The previous two closures have gone well with significant progress. We urge all drivers to follow the official diversion route – ignore your satnavs and stick to our signs for the best chance of reaching your destination on time.”
Official Diversion Routes: Avoid the M25 Mess
Drivers making the trip between junctions 10 and 11 should use these diversions:
- Leave the M25 at Junction 10 and take the northbound A3 to the A245 Painshill junction.
- Follow the A245 towards Woking and Byfleet.
- At Six Crossroads Roundabout, take the 5th exit onto the A320, continuing until you hit M25 Junction 11.
Plan Ahead: More Closures to Come
This weekend closure is the third of five planned full weekend shutdowns on the M25 this year. National Highways and Balfour Beatty Atkins are working closely with Surrey County Council, emergency services, local businesses, and both Gatwick and Heathrow airports to gear up for the impact.
