Police have arrested two men, aged 19 and 21, on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Ashton Harrington. The arrests came after a targeted operation at a Romney Court property in Sittingbourne on 13 April. Both suspects remain in custody as the investigation presses on.
Tragic Stabbing on Good Friday
Ashton died in the early hours of Good Friday, 3 April, on Belmont Road, Whitstable. Despite the desperate efforts of emergency crews, including an air ambulance team, and the help from members of the public, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ongoing Nationwide Inquiry
Detectives have been canvassing five locations connected to the case: Sittingbourne, Herne Bay, Ramsgate, Whitstable, and Canterbury. Earlier this month, four people—two women aged 22 and 24, and two men aged 26 and 21—were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but have since been bailed pending further inquiries.
Detective and Family Speak Out
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Lawry said: “Our officers have been seen across Sittingbourne, Herne Bay and Ramsgate as part of the investigation. We have received really good support from the public and we would like to thank them. Two men are now in custody and we will keep the public updated as this case moves on.”
Ashton’s mother, Camille Harrington, told KentOnline: “I just don’t know how someone could be so cruel to end his life like that. I don’t really know how they can sleep at night. I won’t rest until I look in their eyes when I see them facing justice in court.”
Ashton Harrington leaves behind his mother, stepdad, grandmother, two younger brothers, and an 18-month-old daughter.
