Massive Lorry Blaze Rocks St Ives
At 8.20pm on Tuesday, fire crews were scrambled to a fierce blaze on London Road, St Ives. Over 20 firefighters from Huntingdon, Papworth, Gamlingay, Cambridge, and Ramsey rushed to the scene, including a water carrier unit.
Firefighters Battle Intense Lorry Fire
Crews arrived to find a lorry engulfed in flames. Wearing breathing apparatus, they doused the fire with hose reels and got it under control. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Hazardous Clean-Up and Road Closures Ahead
The lorry was carrying chemicals, meaning a specialist clean-up team is now on the job. The operation will take hours, and London Road will need resurfacing due to damage.
Expect road closures on London Road until early Wednesday. This will disrupt access to St Ives and the A1307. Drivers are urged to plan ahead and take alternative routes for work or the school run.
