A massive grass fire has broken out on Chelsfield Lane in Orpington, sparking a huge emergency response. Around 70 firefighters are on the scene, supported by ten fire engines, tackling flames blazing across a vast 40 hectares of land.
Brigade Uses Cutting-Edge Tech to Tackle Blaze
Firefighters and Control Officers are using the latest technology to get a better handle on the situation. The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers deployed 999Eye — a live streaming system that lets callers transmit real-time footage from their smartphones directly to Control Room screens. This gives crews on the ground and commanders a crystal-clear view of the fire’s spread and severity.
“999Eye improves situational awareness and enables us to provide the best advice based on live footage,” a Brigade spokesperson explained.
Quick Response From Multiple Fire Stations
The call came in at 11:43 a.m., instantly mobilising firefighters from Orpington, Sidcup, Bromley, Eltham, Plumstead, Biggin Hill, and nearby stations. The coordinated effort highlights the urgent scale of the emergency and the fire service’s rapid response.
