Massive Rescue and Recovery Underway Off Kent Coast
The tense operation involved Border Force teams, lifeboats, and a Royal Navy patrol vessel. They were joined by French fishing boats and two coastguard helicopters near Dungeness. What began as a rescue mission has now turned into a grim recovery effort.
Emergency Calls Spark Intense Search
UK coastguard received urgent distress calls shortly before 3am reporting a migrant boat in trouble. Several survivors were airlifted to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. Rescue helicopters made three trips from bases in Lydd, Lee-on-the-Solent, and Humberside.
Three lifeboats continued the search throughout the day. So far, rescuers have recovered three lifejackets and a rucksack from the water, as they comb the area for more missing migrants.
