Drama on New Year’s Eve: Canoe Rescue Near Chichester Marina
The Selsey Coastguard Team was scrambled at 11:45am on New Year’s Eve after reports of three canoeists struggling near Chichester Marina.
Rescue Teams Rush to the Scene
Hayling Lifeboats and the Hayling Coastguard Team quickly joined the effort, arriving just in time to assist.
One Rescued with Possible Hypothermia
Paramedics were called when rescuers found one person cold and coughing up water. Suspected hypothermia forced Coastguard Officers and Lifeboat Crew to carry the individual on a stretcher to the waiting ambulance for urgent medical care.

After the patient was safely handed over to paramedics, all teams were ordered back to base. Remember, if you’re in trouble at sea, on the beach, or along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.
