Mysterious Fires Spark Police Hunt in Merton
Detectives have launched a hunt after a string of suspicious fires broke out in Merton. Police released images of a man they urgently want to question.
Blaze Hits Field Near Woodmansterne Road
At around 12:30pm on June 26, emergency services raced to a fire in a field off Woodmansterne Road, close to Lacrosse Way. The London Fire Brigade quickly doused the flames, but the fire still caused property damage. Some homes nearby were evacuated as a safety measure.
Second Fire Raises Alarm
The June 26 fire is linked to another suspicious blaze at the same spot on July 19. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported from either incident.
Man with Knife Seen Acting Suspiciously
Police say the fires are thought to be deliberate. They also report sightings of a man carrying a knife behaving suspiciously in the area.
Officers have now released photos of the man they want to speak to in connection with the fires.
