Massive Acid Spill Sparks Sidcup Factory Evacuation
Fire crews rushed to a chemical spillage at a Sidcup factory tonight, shutting down a busy road and sparking a major emergency response.
Hydrochloric Acid Leak Triggers Alarm
Just before 9pm, a large quantity of hydrochloric acid leaked inside the boiler house at the Cray Road site. The chemical is used for sanitation processes at the factory.
Six fire engines stormed the scene via Edgington Road, with firefighters donning chemical suits and breathing apparatus to tackle the hazardous spill safely.
Road Closures and Evacuations
The A224 Cray Road is closed both ways due to the police incident, from the A20 Sidcup By-Pass (Crittal’s Corner) to A211 Sidcup Hill.
About 200 staff evacuated the building before firefighters arrived. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.
London Fire Brigade spokesman: “There was a leak of hydrochloric acid which has now been isolated. Firefighters responded swiftly to contain the incident.”
The Brigade received the call at 8:39pm and remains on site as the situation is managed.
