Tragic Flat Fire in Islington Claims One Life
A deadly blaze tore through a ground-floor flat on Rotherfield Street just before 1am on Tuesday, 24th January 2023. The inferno left one man dead and another seriously injured.
Massive Emergency Response
The London Fire Brigade scrambled four fire engines and 25 firefighters from Islington, Shoreditch, and Euston stations. Firefighters in breathing apparatus battled the flames and rescued a man who was rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

Despite their valiant efforts, another man was sadly declared dead at the scene.

By Tuesday morning, a strong police and fire service presence remained. The London Fire Brigade’s fire investigation unit has launched a joint probe into the blaze.
“Sadly, a man has died following a flat fire on Rotherfield Street in Islington last night,” a London Fire Brigade spokesman confirmed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown as the investigation continues.
