Family Plucked from Wreckage After Horrific Head-On Crash on A31 Near Four Marks

A family was dramatically cut free by firefighters following a brutal three-vehicle head-on smash on the A31 near Four Marks on Sunday evening (5 November 2017).

Fiery Collision Closes Busy A31

Emergency crews raced to the scene just before 7pm after a collision involving a Citroen C1, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Jaguar XE near The Strave, on the outskirts of Four Marks village.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue sent teams from Alton, Winchester, and Alresford. Specialists used heavy-duty cutting gear to remove the roof of the Mitsubishi and free the trapped family inside the 30mph road zone.

Hampshire Roads Policing shut the A31 for over four hours as police investigated the crash and specialists from JD Motors recovered the wrecked vehicles.

Five Injured, Two Seriously

  • The Mitsubishi’s 70-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.
  • His 72-year-old passenger was seriously hurt.
  • The Citroen’s 66-year-old woman driver sustained life-threatening injuries.
  • The Citroen passenger, a 49-year-old woman, also suffered serious injuries.
  • Jaguar’s 56-year-old driver escaped with minor injuries treated at the scene.

All four injured occupants of the Mitsubishi and Citroen were rushed to southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward

“A number of people have been seriously injured and the road was closed for more than four hours while we dealt with this incident,” said Sgt Andy Noble of Hampshire Roads Policing.

“I am appealing for anyone with information about this crash to get in touch. Witnesses or anyone who can assist should contact us without delay.”
