Man Airlifted After Horror A31 Crash Leaves Him Fighting for Life
A 20-year-old man is battling for his life after a serious crash on the A31 this lunchtime. The car careered off the road and ended up in a ditch, prompting a major emergency response.
Road Closed for Nearly Three Hours
The A31 was shut for almost three hours as police and crash investigators examined the scene. The man suffered suspected serious brain and head injuries and was airlifted by the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.
Rapid Emergency Response
South Central Ambulance Service confirmed they were called at 11:23am to attend a single-car accident. They dispatched a rapid response vehicle, two ambulances, three hazardous area response teams, plus the air ambulance.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue’s Tom Hall said: “We sent two appliances from Lyndhurst and one from Redbridge. No one was trapped in the vehicle.”
Paramedics Treated Two at the Scene
Crews made the area safe while paramedics treated the man and a woman at the scene. Police finally reopened the road just after 3pm.
