Massive Blaze Tears Through Edmonton Industrial Estate
Chaos erupted in Edmonton in the early hours of Sunday as eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were scrambled to tackle a fierce fire at an industrial estate on Eley Road.
15 Shipping Containers and Vehicles Destroyed
The inferno engulfed fifteen shipping containers, each a massive 20 by 50 metres. An arctic lorry and trailer, a car, and a forklift truck were all damaged or destroyed. Nearby vehicles also fell victim to the flames, with a car and truck wrecked on an adjacent site.
Firefighters Battle Tough Conditions
“Crews faced numerous challenges due to the fire’s location on an industrial estate, which made access difficult at times. It was also a visible fire that produced a lot of smoke. Firefighters worked tirelessly in difficult conditions to put out the fire,” said Station Commander Dave Hill.
The emergency call came in at 2.34am, with the blaze finally extinguished by 5.29am. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Investigation Underway
Firefighters from Edmonton, Chingford, Walthamstow, Tottenham, and other nearby stations joined the intense battle against the flames. The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
