Firefighter Dies Just After Completing LGV Course

Nick Wilby, a firefighter with Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, has died suddenly at his home in Wilton. He passed away on Friday, March 24.

Nick had just finished his LGV driving course. He was on track to become an emergency response driver at the Wilton station.

Fire Chief and Colleagues Mourn the Unexpected Death

Chief Fire Officer Ben Ansell expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He said, “It is with great sadness that I confirm, on behalf of his family, the sudden passing of one of our colleagues. Nick Wilby died late Friday night at his home.”

He added, “I speak for the entire Service when I say that we are all shocked and saddened by this news, and our hearts go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones.”

Union Flags Flown at Half-Mast in Tribute

To honour Nick’s memory, union flags will fly at half-mast from Sunday, March 26 until Thursday, March 30, before returning to full mast.

Support is being offered to colleagues struggling with the loss. Officer Ansell also urged privacy for Nick’s family and friends during this difficult time.
