Serious Crash on A37 Dorchester Bypass
Dorset Police were called to a major collision at 5.10pm on Tuesday 26 April 2022. The crash involved a silver Vauxhall Meriva and a red Land Rover near the Monkeys Jump roundabout on the A37 Dorchester bypass.
Injuries and Emergency Response
- The Vauxhall’s driver, a man in his 60s from Portland, was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
- Two passengers from the Vauxhall were also taken to hospital for treatment.
- A woman in her 40s and three children, all occupants of the Land Rover, were taken to Dorset County Hospital by ambulance.
The A37 remains closed between Weirs roundabout and Monkeys Jump roundabout as emergency crews manage the scene.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Police Constable Mark Burton from the traffic unit said: “We are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of this collision. Any witnesses who haven’t spoken to us yet are urged to get in touch.”
He added: “If you were driving in the area at the relevant time and have a dashcam, please check your footage—it could be crucial to our enquiries.
We thank the public for their patience while the road closures are in effect. These are necessary for the safety of everyone and to allow emergency services to do their work.”
