A violent shoplifter who threatened members of the public with a saw and carried out a brutal attack has been jailed for 10 years. Tedros Menges, 22, of Holbrook Close, Enfield, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday 17 July after being convicted of a string of serious offences. The court heard Menges was arrested near the scene on Saturday 12 July 2025 following the incident. He was charged the following day. Following a trial at Wood Green Crown Court in January 2026, a jury found him guilty of:
- Grievous bodily harm
- Non-fatal strangulation
- Attempted robbery
- Threatening a person with an offensive weapon
Extended sentence imposed
At his sentencing hearing, the court handed Menges a 10-year custodial sentence. Under the terms of the sentence, he will be required to serve at least two-thirds of his prison term before becoming eligible for release. Once released, he will remain subject to a three-year extended licence period, during which he can be recalled to prison if he breaches the conditions of his release. The conviction follows a Metropolitan Police investigation into the violent incident, which led to Menges being swiftly identified, arrested and brought before the courts.
