Teenager Hurt in Newport School Run Crash
A schoolgirl was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital this afternoon after being hit by a car at the Parkhurst Road roundabout in Newport. The smash sparked major traffic chaos across the area.
Traffic Nightmare on Parkhurst Road
The collision caused huge delays, with long queues building up on Horsebridge Hill and the northbound dual carriageway. St Mary’s Roundabout was gridlocked as emergency crews scrambled to deal with the scene.
Police warned petrol had spilled across the road, urging drivers to avoid the area. Southern Vectis buses were forced to divert, adding 20-30 minute delays to the Route 1 service before returning to normal around 3.35pm.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Hampshire Constabulary officers and the Isle of Wight Ambulance service arrived just after 3pm to attend to the female student. Initial reports left the extent of her injuries unclear.

Good news – the student has been discharged from hospital with no lasting injuries. Traffic is now easing and returning to normal across Newport.
