Emergency teams worked through the night and into Saturday morning recovering the vehicle and gathering forensic evidence. Authorities are also set to inspect the carriageway for structural damage before reopening the motorway.

Inspector Mark Vicary of Avon and Somerset police said, “We will provide support to the families through this devastating time. Our thoughts are with them in the most tragic of circumstances.”

He urged the public to avoid the area while investigations continue and asked anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward and contact the police.
