Vandals Smash up Waterlooville Church

Vandals attacked a CofE Anglican Church on Friday afternoon, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage. The font – used to baptise generations of local people – and a window in St George’s Church, Waterlooville were smashed, and a Paschal candle broken, on Friday afternoon. The Church broke the news to followers, posting a picture of the destroyed font, adding “What remains of our lovely font after yesterday’s senseless act of vandalism at St George’s Church Waterlooville. Heartbreaking. “And they smashed one of the church hall windows for good measure and have broken our paschal candle,” they added. Local resident Carol Piercey said, “I am lost for words…I was baptised here – 65 years ago – as was my son and my parents were married here! “I only hope that those who felt the need to do this mindless act will at some stage realise that behaviour of this nature only brings the community together whatever faith, culture or background.” Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 101.
