Vandals wreaked havoc at a historic Church of England site in Waterlooville last Friday, leaving damage worth hundreds of pounds. St George’s Church saw its cherished baptismal font smashed, a church hall window broken, and a Paschal candle destroyed in a shocking afternoon attack.

Beloved Font and Window Smashed

The church shared a heartbreaking image of their ruined font, a fixture used for baptising generations of locals. “What remains of our lovely font after yesterday’s senseless act of vandalism at St George’s Church Waterlooville. Heartbreaking,” the post read.

They added, “And they smashed one of the church hall windows for good measure and have broken our Paschal candle.”

Community Shocked and United

Local resident Carol Piercey expressed her dismay: “I am lost for words… I was baptised here 65 years ago. My son was as well, and my parents were married here!”

“I only hope that those who felt the need to commit this mindless act will realise that behaviour like this only brings the community together – whatever faith, culture, or background.”

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Police have urged anyone with information about the vandalism to come forward. If you know anything, call 101.
