COVID-19 Testing Kicks Off for HGV Drivers Stuck in Kent

COVID-19 tests are now being conducted for HGV drivers caught up in Kent’s freight chaos. Once tested, drivers face a wait of at least 40 minutes for results.

What Happens After Your Test?

  • If your test is negative, you’ll be sent straight to your departure point.
  • If positive, you’ll get on-the-spot guidance and support to help you through.
  • Food and water are provided for drivers waiting at testing sites.

Drivers are urged to stay inside their vehicles and maintain social distancing at all times.

Don’t Travel to Kent – Major Delays Remain

HGV drivers are warned not to head to Kent unless already in the area. There are severe delays and disruption at both the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel.

Authorities say:

“Please stay with your vehicle and adhere to social distancing. We are doing everything possible to get you moving as fast as we can.”

Where and How to Get Tested

  • If you’re heading to the Port of Dover, go to Manston, postcode CT12 5FE, where welfare facilities are available.
  • If you’re bound for Eurotunnel, join the queue at Junction 8 on the M20 motorway.
  • A rapid COVID test is mandatory to leave England – an order from both UK and French governments.

Failing to comply means you’ll be turned away from all ports.

Important: COVID testing is NOT available at any medical centre in Kent. Drivers visiting such facilities will be refused testing.

You must remain in your vehicle during testing unless instructed otherwise by police or medical staff.

Waiting times for test results are around 40 minutes. Food and water will be provided for the duration.

Summary:

  1. Don’t travel to Kent unless told to.
  2. Stay in your vehicle and keep your distance.
  3. Get tested at Manston (for Dover) or M20 Junction 8 (for Eurotunnel).
  4. Negative test? You go on your way. Positive? You’ll get support on-site.
