Blaze Breaks Out at Chessington Business Park
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters have been scrambled to tackle a huge fire at the Moden furniture warehouse on Barwell Business Park, Chessington.
Leatherhead Road Shut as Fire Rages
The blaze has spread to several units at the business park on Leatherhead Road. Authorities have closed the road and urged the public to stay clear of the area.
Firefighters Battle Thick Smoke and Flames
“Fire crews arrived to a well-developed fire affecting several units and are working hard to bring it under control. There is thick smoke issuing across the business park. We advise members of the public to keep their doors and windows closed,” said Station Commander Neil Guyett, who is at the scene.
The fire brigade was alerted at 6.36pm, with crews from Surbiton, Kingston, Sutton, Twickenham, Croydon, and Norbury stations rushing in to help.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire is now being probed by the Fire Investigation Unit and the Metropolitan Police Service.
