Heroic Lifeboat Rescue at Colwell Bay Cliffs
Yarmouth’s Severn-class all-weather lifeboat, Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer), sprang into action on Tuesday, 28 June 2022, at 1.29pm. A member of the public had tripped and fallen at the base of the cliffs near Colwell Bay, prompting a daring rescue mission.
Challenging Terrain Forces Lifeboat Response
The volunteer crew launched from Yarmouth harbour and headed west to the precarious bay, where Needles Coastguard and paramedics were already on the scene. The casualty’s location was impossible to reach by land ambulance due to rough terrain, so the lifeboat’s help was urgently called in.
Swift Sea Rescue Using Smaller ‘Y’ Boat
Upon arrival, the lifeboat deployed its smaller ‘Y’ boat to access the shoreline safely. Paramedic and patient — a man suffering a head injury — were transferred onto the lifeboat, which then raced back to Yarmouth. An ambulance was waiting to take over care.
By 2.42pm, the Eric and Susan Hiscock was back at her berth, ready for the next call.
