Lionesses Honoured with Special GWR Train After Euro Glory

Following England’s thrilling 2-1 win over Germany in the Euro 2022 final, Great Western Railway (GWR) has given the Lionesses a spectacular tribute. A sleek Intercity Express Train now sports a special livery celebrating the football heroes who brought the trophy home in style.

Lionesses Celebrate on the Rails

Ruth Busby, GWR’s Human Resources Director, who watched the nail-biting final with her family, said: “The Lionesses are truly deserving of recognition for bringing football home in such brilliant style.” She added she was “overjoyed” by the team’s historic victory.

The train rolled into London Paddington early Monday and is set to arrive at Bristol Temple Meads around lunchtime, spreading the Lionesses’ victory buzz across the region.

Great Western Railway’s Tradition of Honouring Legends

GWR has a proud history of celebrating local and national heroes. Previous tributes include civil rights champion Dr Paul Stephenson OBE, World War II codebreaker Alan Turing OBE, and the legendary Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Welsh sporting icons Sir Gareth Edwards and John Charles have also been immortalised on GWR trains, showing the railway’s commitment to honouring British greatness.

Marking Milestones and Heroes Alike

Earlier this year, GWR adorned the Queen Elizabeth II train with the official Platinum Jubilee Emblem, commemorating Her Majesty’s 70 remarkable years on the throne.

Now, the Lionesses join this prestigious line-up, recognised as true national heroes for their Euro 2022 triumph, inspiring the nation with their talent and determination.
