SIM Swap Scam Sees Luxury Watches Nabbed in £25k Theft
A crafty criminal pulled off a cheeky SIM swap scam, stealing both a mobile SIM card and two credit cards from a Dartford gym locker. The result? Nearly £25,000 blown on luxury watches at Bluewater shopping centre.
Dartford Gym Raid Sparks Major Fraud Probe
On Thursday 13 January 2022, a man reported his credit cards stolen from a locker at the David Lloyd health club in Dartford. His SIM card was also ripped out, giving thieves full access to his online banking apps.
Detective PC James Weston from kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police revealed the fraudsters splashed tens of thousands on pricey timepieces, sparking a full police investigation.
Suspect Caught on Camera – Police Appeal for Help
PC Weston urged the public to help track down the crook caught on CCTV. Despite the man wearing a face mask, his distinctive facial hair and Under Armour gear might give him away.
“We’re hopeful someone will recognise him from the facial features that are visible or his unique clothing,” said PC Weston.
