Tragic Road Crash in Strathaven Claims Life of 29-Year-Old Man
Police are hunting for witnesses after a fatal smash on the A726 in Strathaven on Saturday, 1 April 2023.
Van Hits Three Pedestrians on Glasgow Road
At around 10:50am, a van struck three pedestrians—a 29-year-old man and two women (52 and 24 years old) on Glasgow Road. The man died instantly at the scene.
The 52-year-old woman was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where her condition is serious but stable. The younger woman was treated at Wishaw General Hospital and has since been discharged.
Van Driver Arrested and Released as Investigation Continues
The 47-year-old van driver was arrested but has now been released pending further inquiries.
Police Urge Witnesses and Dashcam Owners to Come Forward
“Although a number of people assisted at the time, we would still ask for witnesses to the crash, or motorists with dash-cam footage capturing the collision, to get in touch with police. Please call officers on 101 quoting reference number 1300 of Saturday, 1 April 2023.”
The A726 was shut for nearly five hours but has now fully reopened.
