Bomb Blast Rocks Medmerry Beach After Ordnance Found
The Selsey Coastguard Team sprang into action on May 2nd, 2023, after reports of possible unexploded ordnance on Medmerry Beach. At 1:45pm, they located the suspicious items, but a bigger bomb was soon uncovered during a wider search.
Controlled Explosion Creates Massive Crater
Coastguards snapped photos of the devices and sent them to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team. A safety cordon was quickly set up. Once EOD arrived, they carried out a controlled explosion. One of the bombs was still highly volatile, blowing a huge crater in the sand and clay.
