Stolen Fiesta Chase Ends in Crash and Jail for Mansfield Driver
Car Hunt on False Plates Ends in Disaster
Andrew James, 47, was caught red-handed behind the wheel of a stolen Ford Fiesta in Mansfield on the evening of Friday, 27 October last year. The car, taken from South Yorkshire the month before, was spotted cruising on false number plates as police swooped in for a stop.
Wild Escape Bid Hits Dirt Track
In a desperate attempt to shake off the cops, James raced along Southwell Road West before veering onto a narrow dirt track, the Old Newark Road – a popular path for dog walkers. The high-speed chase jolted along the rough trail before James slammed his car into his pursuer’s vehicle, leaving the officer with a head injury.
Crash and Capture on Bellamy Road Estate
James lost control as he sped towards the Bellamy Road estate and smashed into a tree. A police helicopter overhead confirmed he was alone in the stolen ride. Later, he admitted guilt to aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.
James Jailed for 20 Months
Yesterday, James appeared at Nottingham Crown Court and was sentenced to 20 months behind bars. Justice served for the high-speed thief who caused havoc on Mansfield streets.
