Crash Shuts Dartford Tunnel, Chaos on Roads
A crash inside one of the Dartford Crossing tunnels has sparked major delays for drivers. Two lanes on the anti-clockwise carriageway are shut, causing traffic to grind to a halt.
Right Tunnel Closed, Long Queues Build
The right-hand tunnel is completely closed following the collision, slashing capacity from four lanes to just two. Meanwhile, the smaller left-hand tunnel, with a height limit of 4.8 metres, remains open.
Queues are backing up all the way to junction 1a, affecting traffic to Dartford and the Darenth Interchange. Motorists are facing serious hold-ups if they need to use the crossing.
Drivers Urged to Find Alternatives
Authorities warn drivers to avoid the area if possible. They advise seeking alternative routes or preparing for lengthy delays to get through the Dartford Crossing.
National Highways says crews are working hard to clear the wreckage and get the closed tunnel reopened safely and quickly.
Stay Tuned for Updates
More information will be released as the situation develops. For now, expect heavy traffic and give yourself extra time if you must travel via Dartford.
