Wandsworth House Party Raided: 30-40 Defy Lockdown Rules
Just before 11.40pm on Thursday, February 11, police stormed a house party in Wandsworth. Officers found between 30 and 40 partygoers packed inside the property, blatantly ignoring the ongoing national lockdown.
Two Arrested and Multiple Fines Issued
Two arrests were made on the spot. A woman was nabbed for breaching Covid regulations, while a man faced arrest for an unrelated offence. The rest of the crowd received fixed penalty notices (FPNs), the party was shut down, and the premises locked up tight.
Inspector Condemns Selfish Partygoers
“It is saddening to have to deal with an incident like this where large numbers of people have illegally gathered in breach of Covid regulations during a national lockdown,” said Inspector Matt Ebbs from South West Command Unit.
“At a time when so many members of the public are making considerable sacrifices and abiding by the rules to keep others safe, these individuals acted selfishly and risked spreading the virus which has already claimed countless lives across our city.”
“These are challenging times but we must all play our part, and I urge everyone to follow the rules to protect themselves and their community.”
How Fines Are Handled
- Offenders get reported using a digital system checked centrally by the Met Police to confirm evidence is solid.
- Reports go to ACRO (Criminal Records Office) for a final review before fixed penalty notices are posted out.
- Repeat offenders face higher fines.
- Failure to pay means a court summons, where fines can rise and court costs may be added.
With lockdown rules still crucial to beating Covid, police warn they will keep cracking down on illegal gatherings.
