Major Emergency at Battle of Britain Memorial in Folkestone
Chaos erupted this afternoon at the Battle of Britain Memorial in Folkestone. Police, fire crews, coastguards, and ambulance teams rushed to the scene after reports several people fell from the cliffs within the memorial grounds.
Man Falls Taking Selfie in High Winds
Emergency services were called around 1:30pm on Thursday after a man reportedly fell while trying to snap a selfie on the cliff edge. At the time, strong winds battered the area, making the scene even more dangerous.
An image captured two men dangerously close to the cliff edge just moments before emergency crews arrived.
Rescue Teams Battle Treacherous Conditions
- Kent Fire and Rescue’s specialist technical teams teamed up with coastguard crews from Dover and Folkestone.
- South East Coast Ambulance Hart teams and the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance assisted in the recovery efforts.
- Multiple rescue units worked through challenging weather to save those involved.
Police Launch Full Investigation
Scene of Crime officers and detectives arrived on-site shortly after the rescue operation began. Kent Police confirmed they were called to a welfare concern this afternoon and are working closely with other emergency agencies. A spokesman said further details would be released as the investigation unfolds.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has been approached for comment.
