Just Stop Oil Activists Sent to Jail After Mass Oil Depot Blockade

Two Just Stop Oil protestors have been locked up following a daring blockade of 10 oil depots on April 1. The action, coordinated with Extinction Rebellion, aimed to force the UK government to halt all new oil and gas projects.

Prison for Protestors: El Litten and Barry Mitchell Behind Bars

El Litten, 35, from Luton, was handed 28 days in prison for aggravated trespass. Barry Mitchell, 74, from Telford, got 21 days. Both have already served time this year for similar protests with Just Stop Oil.

More Arrests from M25 Blockade Face Court

  • Seven more activists arrested during four days of protests on the M25 in November appeared at Guildford and Maidstone Crown Courts.
  • Isabel Rock, 41, from South London, was bailed after 30 days on remand.
  • Phoebe Plummer, 21, also from South London, was released on bail after spending 29 days in Bronzefield prison.

Mass Arrests Highlight Rising Tensions

Just Stop Oil’s October and November campaign sparked over 700 arrests in six weeks alone. Since launching their campaign on April 1, more than 2,000 arrests have been made and 24 activists remain imprisoned.

The group insists their peaceful protests target the government’s plan to licence 100+ new oil and gas projects by 2025. They accuse officials of ignoring soaring energy bills and fuelling climate catastrophe—claiming such inaction is “complicit in the death of millions” and undermining democracy itself.
